Rising Damp

Problem

Salting at low level and spoiling of internal finishes.

Diagnosis

There was a cracked rainwater drain on the external of the property. This was causing the soil at the foundation of the wall to become saturated causing rising dampness. There was an element of penetrating dampness at low level due to the fact that the external ground level had been raised slightly by the block paving installed previously.

Remedy

The external drain problem was rectified first of all. Then on this project we decided to use a more traditional approach using sand and cement rendering and an above ground tanking system. The internal floor was a concrete construction allowing us to seal the wall to floor joint using fillet seal and bring the tanking slurry 300mm onto the concrete slab. This protects from further water ingress due to lateral dampness.

Customer review

“Did a first-class job, good set of lads. Clean and tidy, very polite and can’t fault them. Recommend them. 10/10.”
