Problem
Heavy salting and spoiling of internal finishes in main church area, needs repairing with a fast-drying system due to the church having a birthday celebration in 6 weeks’ time and they would like the area decorated by then.
Diagnosis
Easy!! The problem was traced to a large traditional cast iron rainwater hopper being full of leaf matter and cracked at the rear allowing water to penetrate the thick brick walls and therefore spoiling the internal finish. Another thing to note here was the presence of black ash mortar. Replastering these areas with incorrect plaster can cause more harm than good.
Remedy
After speaking to the reverend and the buildings maintenance coordinator we chose a cdm membrane system (Delta Ms 500) due to the fast-drying time. They delighted with the results on this latest church project.
